Oil and gas exploration is a business with risks because it is expensive and offers no guarantee of return on investment. JOGMEC conducts overseas field surveys to reduce exploration risk for Japanese oil companies, to generate exploration and production business opportunities for them and to enhance relationships with host countries. We also conduct in-house studies to promote new opportunities overseas.
JOGMEC conducts overseas field surveys to generate exploration and production business opportunities for Japanese oil companies and to strengthen relationships with host countries. These surveys are also a means of reducing exploration risks for Japanese oil companies and of ensuring a stable supply of energy to Japan. The surveys are funded by Japanese Government.
In the surveys, we acquire geological and geophysical data in close cooperation with host countries. Upon completion of a survey, we submit a complete set of data and a technical report to the host country. The quality of the data and technical reports of previous surveys submitted to host countries have been highly appreciated.
JOGMEC's predecessor, Japan National Oil Corporation (JNOC), conducted its first overseas field survey from 1979 to 1981 in China's Bohai Bay. Since then, JOGMEC has conducted 46 overseas field surveys in 22 countries. In recent years, JOGMEC conducted surveys in the Azadegan oil field area in Iran and the Burgos Basin in Mexico.
JOGMEC also conducts in-house studies to promote new opportunities overseas to Japanese oil companies. Contents of such studies range from exploration potential to development and/or production scenarios and cost analyses.
