Seminars and Presentations
JOGMEC maintains a network for efficient information collection. For this network, JOGMEC
- Makes efficient use of foreign consultants through its overseas offices for ongoing and reliable information collection.
- Makes presentations at international conferences, visits mining companies, arranges mine tours and cooperative seminars to build relationships with governments of metal producing countries and mining companies.
- Invites executives of governments of resource countries and mining companies to promote interchange between organizations and collect the latest information.
The main lecture presentations we held during the most recent fiscal year are summarized below.
Providing Basic Information on Resource Development
One of our new initiatives in fiscal 2005 was a basic seminar on resource development, held in March 2006, to provide general knowledge on the resource development business. We also held mining investment seminars featuring key figures from Colombia, the Philippines and Australia, which proved very popular with people in the mining industry.
News Bulletins from Overseas Staff and Organization of Lectures
- Quarterly report presentations by overseas staff (reports by the former head of the Canberra office, head of the Vancouver office, metals representative of the Beijing office, metals representative of the London office, head of the Lima office, head of the Santiago office and metals representative of the Sydney office)
- Three lectures by overseas government officials (lectures by the Chairman of the Colombia Mining Association and the Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Trade & Industry, and a seminar on Australian mining investment)
- Several research presentations (presentations on research by the Metals Strategy Group, analysis of markets in 2005, etc.)
Sustainable Development in Mining
In addition to conducting surveys on the activities of mining-related non-governmental organizations and trends among stakeholders, including local communities, we held three roundtable discussions on environmental CSR with Japanese mining industry insiders as well as a number of other seminars. These initiatives were intended to deepen understanding of sustainable development among people in the mining industry and help facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices.
Overseas Lecture Presentations and Booth Exhibits
We participated in the African Junior Mining Congress in July 2006, and in lectures and booth exhibits aimed at forming projects in Africa.
