This activity aims to develop engineering technologies to increase efficiency and reduce costs of mine pollution prevention measures at all suspended or abandoned mines, regardless of the existence of their owners, and to promote the application of those technologies.
JOGMEC has successfully developed several technologies that have demonstrated their usefulness and that are applied to many mines. These technologies are contributing greatly to the reduction of costs for mine pollution prevention measures.
Just after JOGMEC started technology development activities in the latter part of the 1970s, JOGMEC engaged in development of technologies for measures at dumping sites and mine drainage control. In the latter part of the 1980s, JOGMEC focused on the development of neutralization sludge treatment technologies. Since the Heisei period (1989 and after), JOGMEC's research and development subjects have diversified into the development of the "centralized management technology for drainage from mines" that aims to reduce personnel expense and ensure great efficiency through the centralized management of treatment plants and the development of the "most suitable technology for neutralization of mine drainage" that offers a guideline for neutralization treatment processes fitting for different mine location conditions and different types of mine drainage.
