JOGMEC manages Japan's national stockpiles of rare metals at warehouses in Ibaraki Prefecture. For more than 20 years, JOGMEC has consistently maintained the warehouses and their equipment in peak condition. The quality of the stockpiles remains a central focus as well. Stockpiles are stored in the warehouses and in covered yards, and are inspected regularly to confirm that quality is not deteriorating. Moreover, stockpiles are rotated and moved within the warehouses to prevent the piles from collapsing, to maintain safe and stable storage, and to prepare for their efficient release.
The stockpiling warehouses occupy a site that is approximately 37,000 m². Stockpiles are generally stored in drums, except for materials such as ferromanganese that are stored in nugget form in covered yards. The warehouses also have truck scales to make release of stockpiles by truck as efficient as possible.
