Technical Training

JOGMEC's technical training programs contribute to strong relationships between oil- and gas-producing countries and upstream industries in Japan.

Technical Training Programs for Overseas Participants

As one of the largest oil and gas consumers in the world, Japan strengthens its relationships with oil- and gas-producing countries by contributing to the advancement of global petroleum development technologies. JOGMEC supports this effort by inviting geoscientists and engineers from oil- and gas-producing countries to Japan and provides training courses in a broad array of specialized technologies.

These training programs include technical lectures, workshops, and training at actual project sites to offer instruction in practical techniques and knowledge. They are complemented by orientation sessions and Japanese language classes to introduce basic information on Japan and to deepen the understanding of Japanese culture and society.

Since the JOGMEC Technology and Research Center (TRC) Overseas Training Program began in fiscal 1988, approximately 1,100 participants had been accepted from 47 organizations in 40 countries as of January 2007. Many participants are now in senior roles at their nation's ministries responsible for oil, gas and energy resources and state-run oil companies. These organizations are enthusiastic about the program, and continue to dispatch participants because the new technologies and knowledge participants acquire are broadly applicable to their work. Japanese private oil companies also appreciate JOGMEC's training programs as a forum for dialogue among individuals. In fiscal 2005 and 2006, JOGMEC offered special training programs for participants from Iraq to support reconstruction programs there.
