JOGMEC held Investment Seminar
JOGMEC（Head office: Minato-ku Tokyo, Chairman and CEO- Tetsuhiro Hosono） held a “JOGMEC Investment seminar” with the subject “State of Queensland, Australia’s resources and energy policy and hydrogen business” on 4 June 2019.
In order to secure a stable supply of coal resources, JOGMEC invites visiting government representatives from coal producing countries, coal company executives and coal sector specialist to provide information on coal mine development and trends at investment seminars.
Since the signing of MOU with State of Queensland, Australia (hence Queensland) in September 2013, JOGMEC has held 13 joint seminars. Most recently topics have included “Aurizon’s transport capacity reduction” in March 2018 and in March 2019 “Queensland Mineral Resources and Energy Regulation 2018 amendment”
The Queensland Government has recently announced a hydrogen industry strategy to support the future development of renewable energy sourced hydrogen business in Queensland, as the next export industry, following coal and liquified natural gas.
In response to this, JOGMEC and the Queensland Government have included exchange of information on hydrogen business in the MOU, the re-signing of which was undertaken at JOGMEC Head office on 27 May 2019 on the occasion of the Premier of Queensland, the Hon. Annastacia Palaszczuk’s visit to Japan.
This seminar was the first collaboration activity to be undertaken since the re-signing of the MOU.
We welcomed the Hon. Cameron Dick, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning and Prof. Masakazu Sugiyama, Research Centre for Advance Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo who gave presentations on Queensland’s hydrogen strategy as a part of the government resources and energy policy, the quantitative scenario of Japan’s 2050 energy flow and the position of hydrogen in that scenario.
The seminar was attended by a large number of representatives from trading houses, resources and energy companies, utility companies and industrial gas producers. JOGMEC will closely follow the implementation of policy measures and trends on use and production of hydrogen as a future energy, looking to achieve outcomes in the Strategic Energy Plan that was announced in July 2018.
JOGMEC will continue to provide valuable information to secure stable supply of coal resources through seminars and studies. For the latest information on coal mine resource developments, please see “Coal Resource Information” at the below link or subscribe to “JOGMEC Coal Newsletter”
