JOGMEC and Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas of the Republic of Angola signed a new MOU
Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation（Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman & CEO: Tetsuhiro Hosono）signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter: “MOU”) with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas of the Republic of Angola (hereinafter: “MIREMPET”) to strengthen bilateral relationship in the field of metallic mineral resources, oil and natural gas, on March 26, 2021.
JOGMEC has signed the new MOU with MIREMPET to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Japan and the Republic of Angola (hereinafter: “Angola”) and to encourage investments from Japanese companies in the exploration and development of metallic mineral resources in Angola.
Under this MOU, JOGMEC will cooperate with Angola in metallic mineral resources exploration and technology transfer using Satellite Image Analysis and the Geographic Information System. It also plans to exchange information on the oil and natural gas field, as well as on metallic mineral resources.
The technology transfer will be provided through JOGMEC Geologic Remote Sensing Centre located in Botswana (hereinafter: “Botswana Centre”). From the next fiscal year, the Botswana Centre will conduct Satellite Image Analysis jointly with the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) in order to identify promising areas in Angola for rare earth elements, cobalt, lead, nickel, tantalum, lithium, platinum, copper, zinc, gold, and so on.
JOGMEC will continue to further strengthen its relationship with Angola, which has a high potential such as rare metals, base metals and oil and natural gas, in order to ensure a stable supply of natural resources to Japan with Angola through MOU.
