JOGMEC signed Join Study Agreement in Relation to the Study on Low Salinity Water Flooding EOR, Vietnam

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (“JOGMEC”, President: Hirobumi Kawano) signed the “Joint Study Agreement in Relation to the Study on Low Salinity Water Flooding EOR, Vietnam” with Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI, General Director: Dr. Nguyen Anh Duc).
JOGMEC signed a Joint Study Agreement relating to low salinity water flooding (LSWF) with VPI on 16th September, 2015. Based on this agreement, JOGMEC and VPI will jointly evaluate the applicability of LSWF in Vietnamese oil fields over the next 2 years.
Aiming to secure stable supplies of natural resources and energy for Japan, JOGMEC continues to successively accumulate technical abilities in oil development and promotes joint study opportunities with oil-producing countries, in order to both transfer knowledge and maintain positive international working relationships.
■ Low salinity water flooding (LSWF), one of many EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) techniques, is receiving increasing attention for its low operating cost and minimal associated environmental impacts. Although several mechanisms potentially responsible for increasing oil recovery during LSWF have been proposed, none of them have been widely accepted as a main contributor. With this background knowledge, JOGMEC looks to further examine LSWF’s role in increasing oil recovery using laboratory models and numerical simulations.
■ This joint study is conducted under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that JOGMEC and PETROVIETNAM (“PVN”, national oil company in Vietnam) signed in November, 2007.
■ VPI is a PVN-affiliated science research institution.
