Report of JOGMEC Techno Forum 2015
JOGMEC (President: Hirobumi Kawano) held “JOGMEC Techno Forum 2015” at Palace Hotel Tokyo on October 28 and October 29, 2015.
This forum was the third forum following JOGMEC Techno forum 2013, 2014 and a total of 25 speeches were presented by domestic and foreign companies such as Minister of Oil and Gas, Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman, IHS Inc. Furthermore, a total of 23 exhibits were displayed by Japanese companies and research institutions etc. A total of 1,800 people participated throughout the two days.
JOGMEC Techno Forum holds its purpose of strengthening the relationships between Japanese companies holding cutting-edge technologies and resource developing countries whom expect much in these technologies. This is the third year for JOGMEC to hold this forum.

As an opening on Day-1 of Techno Forum 2015, representatives from the Minister of Oil and Gas, (Sultanate of Oman), and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Total, gave speeches about their actions and future strategies in national resource development. In the afternoon, personnel from Japanese oil producing/engineering companies and Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman, IHS Inc. gave speeches about the technologies and business strategies needed in Low Oil Price Markets. The session was followed by a panel discussion on the same topic. By welcoming Dr. Yergin as a moderator and Japanese companies and government official as panelists, each member gave various opinions from their point of view.
On Day-2, a session titled as “Needs & Seeds session” was planned. Guest speakers from PETRONAS and Canada introduced their R&D challenges and actions on site. Also, personnel from the Japanese government official and Japanese companies addressed their cutting-edge technologies and future actions. In addition, from the high expectation of applying Robotics technology in national resource development, personnel from Japanese Industry/academia/government gave speeches concerning the current and future status of Robotics. Furthermore, Total S. A. addressed the possibility of utilizing Robotics to realize unmanned operation or decreasing the number of staff on site.
In addition to the speeches, exhibitions were held to provide more opportunities to exchange the needs of oil and gas development and Japanese technological seeds, including Robotics, between participants, speakers and Japanese companies. The forum ended on a high note and many favorable comments were expressed from the participants.
Through the “Technical Solutions Project*” including this forum, JOGMEC is committed to match these innovative, cutting-edge technologies of Japanese companies with the technological needs.
