JOGMEC to Strengthen Partnerships with African Countries
~ Emphasize JOGMEC’s activities at African Mining Indaba ~

 JOGMEC (President : Hirobumi Kawano) introduced its activities in Africa at African Mining Indaba 2016, Africa’s largest mining event which took place in Cape Town, South Africa from 8th to 11th February.
 Mr. Takafumi Tsujimoto, Executive Director of Metals Strategy & Exploration Unit, made his presentation on JOGMEC’s activities in Africa at African Mining Indaba 2016, which brought more than 6,000 delegates from over 100 countries.
 Mr. Tsujimoto’s presentation raised the expectation for JOGMEC’s activities in Africa, which are underpinned by joint venture exploration, technical transfer and environmental conservation activity. Also, the importance of Japan-Africa partnership for sustainable development was widely shared.
 The presentation was made on 10th February, chaired by Takashi Ooka, general manager of Geological Remote Sensing Centre in Botswana, in latter half session of the African Mining Ministerial Forum, where mining ministers of Madagascar, Namibia, Zambia and other African countries also gave their speeches about their mining policy and mineral potential.
 In addition, JOGMEC set up a joint exhibition booth with Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) as “Japan Booth”, which draws keen attention to Japan’s activities in Africa in the field of mineral resources.
 JOGMEC continues its activities in Africa, based on the projects in Remote Sensing Centre in Botswana, and commits itself to securing stable supply of resources.

JOGMEC Geological Remote Satellite Sensing Centre in Botswana

 The centre was established in July 2008 as a cooperation project with the Department of Geological Survey of Botswana. Over 600 geologists from 13 countries have participated in the projects of joint satellite image analysis and field surveys. The projects aim to transfer the remote sensing technique to geologists from SADC member states and identify the prospect area to form joint venture projects.

African Mining Indaba 2016

 Investing in African Mining Indaba is an annual professional conference and one of the world’s largest mining events held in Cape Town in South Africa. In its 22nd running, African Mining Indaba 2016 brought top leaders from over 100 countries to discuss challenges and opportunities of the African mining industry.
