Report of JOGMEC Techno Forum 2016

 Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) held “JOGMEC Techno Forum 2016” at Palace Hotel Tokyo on November 29 and 30, 2016, which was the 4th time for JOGMEC to host the event. During the forum, 23 speeches were presented by speakers from government agencies and NOCs of oil and gas producing countries, and domestic and oversea companies in E&P or related fields. Technical discussion was also organized at the final session and 6 technical experts from domestic E&P and engineering service companies discussed the topics of the forum. Furthermore, Japanese cutting-edge technologies from 13 companies were introduced and displayed as solutions to the technical challenges. JOGMEC Metals Exploration Department also demonstrated their technology on mineral identification with their Portable Spectrometer, and JOGMEC’s activities were introduced with the poster exhibition. Total of 1,800 people visited this forum.
 JOGMEC Techno Forum is intended to strengthen the relationships between Japanese companies holding various cutting-edge technologies and resources-rich countries. This year, under the theme of “Challenges and Solutions in the New Age”, we cast a spotlight on the three keywords; “Cost Reduction”, “Efficiency Enhancement” and “Alliance”.

Day1

 On Day 1, executives from government agencies of Mexico, Brazil and Indonesia, and Gazprom, SOCAR and ADNOC made keynote speeches, as the representatives of oil and gas producing countries and its NOCs. The keynote speeches targeted two themes; the current circumstances in resource development, and the future strategies in turbulent business environments. Thereafter, speakers from domestic and oversea companies in E&P or related fields provided their perspectives on their business strategies based on “Alliance” between resource developing companies, and highlighted its importance.

Day2

 On Day 2, from the perspectives of “Cost Reduction” and “Efficiency Enhancement”, we organized three sessions titled “IOR/ EOR”, “Gas Separation and Utilization” and “Robotics/ IoT / Big Data” respectively. In each session, Japanese companies and institutes with strong expertise introduced their latest challenges and the future vision about its applicability to E&P projects.
 As a concluding session of the forum, 6 technical experts from domestic E&P and engineering service companies were invited to discuss the topics of the forum. While it focused on “Cost Reduction”, “Efficiency Enhancement” and “Alliance” as the main themes, extensive discussion alluding to technological seeds or needs was made.
 Further, exhibition was also organized during the forum. Japanese companies exhibited variety of their promising technologies in connection to the three main session themes of Day 2. Some demonstrated their robot technologies which are expected to be effective in resource development field. In the exhibition room, exhibitors and participants exchanged open and constructive dialogue, extending the opportunity of this forum to serve as a platform to bridge between needs of the oil and gas producing countries and technological seeds.

Through the “Technical Solutions Project” activities including this Techno Forum, JOGMEC is determined to enhance Japanese companies’ solutions to the technological challenges faced in oil and gas producing countries.
