Memorandum of Cooperation signed by JOGMEC and the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan

On August 8, 2024, JOGMEC, Chariman and CEO Ichiro Takahara, visited Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan and met with His Excellency Mr. Kanat Sharlapaev, Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the visit, JOGMEC has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan to further cooperation in the metals sector.
The Republic of Kazakhstan is rich in natural resources such as chromium, manganese, tantalum, copper and zinc, and supplies ferrochrome and tantalum to Japan. This abundance of resources makes the country a significant area of interest.
Mr. TAKAHARA Ichiro, Chairman & CEO of JOGMEC, visited Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and met with His Excellency Mr. Kanat Sharlapaev, Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the visit, JOGMEC has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan to further cooperate in the metals sector. Under the MOC, JOGMEC and the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan aim to strengthen the collaboration in comprehensive areas such as strengthening of exploration and development, efficient use of mineral resources, and development of technology for processing secondary raw materials*. During the meeting, H.E. Mr. Kanat Sharlapaev and Mr. TAKAHARA Ichiro agreed to further cooperation in the resource sector.
Through the initiatives above, JOGMEC will further strengthen the relationships with the Republic of Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries to ensure a stable supply of metals and mineral resources to Japan.
(Note 1) It is the technology for the recovery of metals from tailings and end-of-life products.
