JOGMEC and Woodside signed Memorandum of Understanding which supports collaboration on Methane Emissions Management
Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) and Woodside Energy Ltd. (Woodside) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which supports collaboration on methane emissions management.
This MOU will strengthen the relationship of both companies and aims to support future decarbonization of the LNG value chain from Australia to Japan.

JOGMEC and Woodside have signed a MOU which supports the collaboration on methane emissions management. The MOU was announced at the LNG Producer-Consumer Conference (LNG PCC) 2024 held in Hiroshima on October 6, 2024.
Methane is one of the most representative GHGs and has a greenhouse effect 28 times that of CO2. Reducing emissions has become a global issue. JOGMEC is focusing on reducing methane emission in the LNG value chain, collecting information on methane emission management and the status of emission reduction efforts, and publishing it together with best practices. JOGMEC is promoting the Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net-zero (CLEAN).
Under the MOU announced in LNG PCC 2024, JOGMEC and Woodside will promote collaboration on methane management through JOGMEC’s introduction of Japanese companies to Woodside to collaborate on technologies related to detection and quantification of methane emissions. This collaboration with Woodside aims to contribute to future decarbonization of the LNG value chain from Australia to Japan, in which Japanese companies are also participating, based on CLEAN' initiative.
Through this initiative, JOGMEC will contribute to cleaner energy resources imported into Japan.
