JOGMEC signed Memorandum of Cooperation on Mining and Mineral Resources with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Peru

On November 16th, 2024, on the occasion of Prime Minister Ishiba’s attendance at the APEC Summit in the Republic of Peru, JOGMEC signed a new Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Peru (MINEM) aimed at cooperation in the field of mining and mineral resources.
The Republic of Peru (Peru) has abundant and various mineral resources, including copper and zinc. JOGMEC has built a strong cooperative relationship with this country over the past 50 years, since the organization was the "Metal Mining Agency of Japan", through engaging in activities such as geological surveys, mine pollution control, support for Japanese companies operating in the country, and organization of investment seminars.
On November 16th, Mr. TAKAHARA Ichiro, Chairman & CEO of JOGMEC, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Romuro Mucho Mamani, the Minister of MINEM, and signed a new MOC for the cooperation in the field of mining and minerals resources in Lima, Peru. On November 17th, both of them demonstrated the MOC at the official ceremony with the attendance of Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, the Prime Minister of Japan, and H.E. Ms. Dina Boluarte, the President of Peru.
JOGMEC and MINEM aim to establish a more robust cooperative framework within the area of mining and mineral resources, such as through technical cooperation in areas of the remote sensing image analysis for mine environment monitoring, and the removal of impurities from copper ores under the MOC.
JOGMEC will continue to develop the mining sector in Peru and ensures a stable supply of mineral resources to Japan further strengthening the relationship with Peru.
