JOGMEC held “Minas Gerais Mining Investment Seminar”
- Fostering enthusiasm for future mining investment to strengthen the critical minerals supply chain-

Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), the Secretariat for Economic Development of the State of Minas Gerais, Federal Republic of Brazil (SEDE), and Invest Minas held the “Minas Gerais Mining Investment Seminar” November 5,2024 in Tokyo, during Mr. Fernando Passalio Avelar, SEDE, Mr. João Paulo Braga, CEO of Invest Minas, and other delegates’ visit to Japan. In this seminar, participants shared information on mining policies and investment environment in the state and exchanged their opinions.
JOGMEC, the SEDE, and Invest Minas held “Minas Gerais Mining Investment Seminar”, based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the field of critical minerals signed by the three parties in January 2024.

The seminar was attended by seven delegates, including Mr. Fernando Passalio Avelar, SEDE, and Mr. João Paulo Braga, CEO of Invest Minas, and 70 participants from Japan, including non-ferrous metals companies, trading companies, manufacturing companies, financial institutions, and government agencies. Mr. DAITO Michio, President of JOGMEC, gave his opening remarks and described JOGMEC's initiatives in Brazil and future cooperation. H.E. Mr. Octávio Henrique Dias Garcia Côrtes, the Brazilian Ambassador to Japan, and Mr. Romeu Zema Neto, the Governor of the State of Minas Gerais also delivered welcome message in videos.

In the seminar session, speakers presented the state's investment environment, the critical minerals policy for energy transition, the environment and development licensing process, mining projects in the state, and so on.

At the end, Mr. KUBOTA Hiroshi , Executive Vice President of Metals Unit, gave his closing remarks and expressed expectations for the cooperation in the state's mining sector by Japan and Japanese companies.

JOGMEC will continue to contribute to the strengthening of the relationship between the State of Minas Gerais and Japan and Japanese companies, based on the MOU signed with the SEDE and Invest Minas, in order to diversify the sources of supply and to contribute to a stable supply of critical minerals to Japan.
