JOGMEC and The State Government of Queensland sign MOU
to collaborate on natural resources
Tokyo, 30 September 2013 - Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and The State Government of Queensland, Australia(Queensland), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for bilateral cooperation on natural resources business and projects between them.
Queensland is one of the resource-richest lands in the world and, for over half a century, has been one of the most important natural resources suppliers for Japan. The MOU is for collaboration in the development of its resources including coal, oil/gas and minerals/metals.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Campbell Newman, Premier of The State Government of Queensland who has been visiting Japan accepting an appointment by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Hirobumi Kawano, the President of JOGMEC in the Head Office of JOGMEC. Following the signing ceremony, a fruitful discussion about natural resource business in Queensland was held between them.
It is expected that the MOU will enhance the relationship between Queensland and JOGMEC, and lead to the mutual benefit of exploring opportunities in the development of Queensland resources and securing a steady resource supply for Japan.
