JAPAN-GTL Consortium Awarded 2014 ENAA Engineering Commendation Award
by Engineering Advancement Association of Japan

July 23, 2014

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and six (6) private companies (*1), which comprise “JAPAN-GTL Consortium” since 1 October 2012, won “2014 ENAA Engineering Commendation Award” for the Demonstration Test Project (*2) of a JAPAN-GTL (Gas to Liquids) Process (*3) from the Japan Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA) .
JAPAN-GTL Process was highly valued as a pioneering technology for its expected potential of practical application in the future engineering business from the following viewpoints: (i) three of main processes for Syngas Production, FT Synthesis and Upgrading of JAPAN-GTL Process were developed based on the technology originated in Japan, (ii) it can contribute to enhancement of energy security for Japan and help Japanese companies acquire oil and natural gas assets overseas, and (iii) it is a groundbreaking technology that would, for the first time, allow natural gas containing carbon dioxide to be directly used in a GTL conversion, and (iv) JAPAN-GTL Consortium pushes forward the study of commercialization of JAPAN-GTL Process.

About the Award

Recipients of Award Team of JAPAN-GTL Demonstration Test Project (JAPAN-GTL Consortium)
(*1) Six (6) private companies:
INPEX CORPORATION, JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd, COSMO OIL CO., LTD, NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN ENGINEERING CO., LTD and Chiyoda Corporation

(*2) JOGMEC commenced JAPAN-GTL Demonstration Test Project in cooperation with six (6) private companies from 2006, and it achieved more than 10,000 hours of demonstration operations, and also continued stable operations for beyond the operation target of 3,000 hours at a GTL demonstration plant in Niigata City from April 2009 to December 2011. We established the JAPAN-GTL Process as an applicable technology to commercial plants through the series of demonstration test. On October 1st, 2012, JOGMEC and six (6) private sector companies set up the website of JAPAN-GTL Consortium as follows: http://japan-gtl.com/index.html.

(*3) GTL stands for Gas To Liquids, which is an environmentally-friendly technology and allows for production of liquid hydrocarbon such as naphtha, kerosene and gas oil, which include no sulfur or aroma. It will open a window for securing liquid fuel resources and contributing to energy security in Japan.
