JOGMEC has signed a MOC with CGS under the attendance of Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Nobuhle Nkabane (South Africa) and Parliamentary Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kazuchika Iwata (Japan) to further strengthen cooperation with the Republic of South Africa in the field of metallic mineral resources,.
Based on the MOC, JOGMEC will cooperate with CGS on skills training to use artificial satellite images and geographical information systems for the exploration of metallic mineral resources as well as on joint analyses and field investigations.
The above cooperation will be implemented through the JOGMEC Botswana Geological Remote Sensing Center (hereafter the “Center”), which has a proven track record of technology transfer to African countries. The Center will work to identify promising areas in the Republic of South Africa for the development of copper, lead, zinc, rare earth minerals, cobalt, platinum-group metals, etc.
JOGMEC will continue to further strengthen ties with the Republic of South Africa that holds a high potential for mineral resources to ensure stable supply of resources to Japan through MOC.
