JOGMEC and CODELCO agree to strengthen strategic partnership
In Santiago, Chile, July 30th, 2014, Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC : Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Mr. Hirobumi Kawano) and Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to strengthen strategic partnership, witnessed by Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Shinzo Abe, President of Chile H.E. Michelle Bachelet and Mining Minister of Chile H.E. Aurora Williams.
The LOI was signed within the framework of Prime Minister Abe’s visit to Chile.
Following topics are to be further discussed between JOGMEC and CODELCO in order to strengthen partnership:
- Cooperative mineral resources exploration.
- Evaluation and application of Japanese advanced technology to solve problems found in the field of exploration, development and operation on mine sites.

Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO)
CODELCO is the world largest copper producer, and second world molybdenum producer, which operates well-known Chuquicamata Mine and El Teniente Mine. Its fine copper production in 2013 was 1,792,000 attributable tonnes, about 10% of total world copper production.
