JOGMEC to Strengthen Partnerships with African Countries
~ Emphasize JOGMEC’s activities at African Mining Indaba ~

 JOGMEC(President : Hirobumi Kawano)introduced its activities in Africa at African Mining Indaba 2015, Africa’s largest mining event which took place in Cape Town, South Africa from 9th to 12th February.
 Mr. Takafumi Tsujimoto, Executive Director of Metals Strategy & Exploration Unit, made his presentation on JOGMEC’s activities in Africa at African Mining Indaba 2015, which brought more than 7,000 delegates from over 110 countries.
 Mr. Tsujimoto’s presentation raised the expectation for JOGMEC’s activities in Africa, which are underpinned by joint venture, technical transfer and environmental conservation activity. And, the importance of Japan-Africa partnership for sustainable development was widely shared. Mr. Tsujimoto also announced a couple of upcoming events, the second Japan-Africa Ministerial Meeting for Resources Development and Japan-Africa Mining and Resources Business Seminar 2015 (J-SUMIT2) to be held for three days in a row May this year in Tokyo.
 In addition, JOGMEC set up a joint exhibition booth with Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), which attracted an endless line of visitors.
 JOGMEC continues its activities in Africa, based on the projects in Remote Sensing Centre in Botswana, and commits itself to securing stable supply of resources.

■JOGMEC Geological Remote Satellite Sensing Centre in Botswana

 The centre was established in July 2008 as a cooperation project with the department of geological survey of Botswana. Over 300 geologists from 12 countries have participated in the project of joint satellite image analysis and field surveys. The project aims to transfer the remote sensing technique to geologists from SADC member states and identify the prospect area to form joint venture projects.

 On May 30, 2015, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will hold the second Japan-Africa Ministerial Meeting for Resources Development in Tokyo. On May 28 and 29, 2015, METI and JOGMEC will jointly hold Japan-Africa Mining & Resources Business Seminar 2015(J-SUMIT2), also in Tokyo aiming to expand opportunities for a mid-long term stable supply of mineral resources from Africa.
