Revised on May 31, 2022

JOGMEC is pleased to announce the publication of the first version of a “recommended guideline for greenhouse gas and carbon intensity accounting framework for LNG/Hydrogen/Ammonia project. (JOGMEC GHG/CI guideline).” JOGMEC will maximize its experience in resource development accumulated over the past 50 years, and as a core organization responsible for energy security, will strengthen its support for LNG, hydrogen, ammonia, and CCS projects being promoted by Japanese companies.
JOGMEC aligns its mission with that of the Japanese government to achieve a Carbon Neutral society by 2050 and has been promoting the CCS (Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage) projects led by Japanese companies.

As a way of laying out the necessary systems for execution of the CCS projects, JOGMEC is pleased to announce the publication of the first version of a “Recommended guideline for greenhouse gas and carbon intensity accounting framework for LNG/Hydrogen/Ammonia project. (JOGMEC GHG/CI guideline).”

This guideline intends to assert the view of JOGMEC through the provision of a recommendation for calculating GHG emissions and CI (Carbon Intensity: GHG emission per product energy content or weight) for LNG/Hydrogen/Ammonia products. Included in the features is the calculation of methane emission, a major subject that is being discussed worldwide. It aims to capture major emission sources and calculate GHG emissions and CI in an accurate manner.

This guideline has been subjected to a public consultation, and the resulting comments have been incorporated. JOGMEC thanks various constructive input to the guideline during the public consultation. JOGMEC aims to apply this guideline to its joint research projects and continuously revise it to be an appropriate recommended guideline. In addition, the expansion of this guideline to include other forms of energy (e.g., synthetic methane) is under discussion.
JOGMEC possesses the subsurface evaluation technology over the past 50 years and the technological engineering facility acquired through studies and demonstration tests. We seek to apply these technologies to LNG, Hydrogen, Ammonia and CCS projects, support Japanese companies, and expand operations.
