The first-ever international workshop to boost momentum for carbon credit generation from CCS projects
- Leading international collaboration for carbon credit generation from CCS projects -

February 6, 2023

Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) in collaboration with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), organized an international online workshop on carbon credits generated from carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) projects, entitled “Global carbon market and CCS: Towards ASEAN decarbonization”, on January 25 and 26, 2023.
Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) initiatives towards achieving carbon neutrality are accelerating worldwide. In this regard, JOGMEC co-hosted a two-day workshop on CCS and carbon credits with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), aiming to promote CCS implementation through appropriate use of carbon credits, thereby contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society in the ASEAN region and beyond.

Many individuals expressed interest in the event, and we received over 1,700 registrations from across the world. It was the first ever international workshop to comprehensively address the debate on carbon credits generated from CCS projects, as well as to share the requirements and future perspectives for existing and under-developed carbon credit schemes. The workshop was highly praised by participants as an advanced initiative that will drive these discussions in ASEAN and globally, contributing to the promotion of the Asia Energy Transition Initiative (AETI) (Note 1) and the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) (Note 2), which are initiatives led by Japanese government.

JOGMEC will continue promoting the social implementation of CCS projects, contributing to a sustainable energy supply and a carbon-neutral society.
