The signing ceremony of the MOU was held in Sapporo, Japan on April 14, 2023 witnessed by H.E. Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Indonesia and H.E. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan, taking the occation of the G7 Ministers' Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment.
JOGMEC and PERTAMINA together with PT Pertamna EP, a subsidary of PERTAMINA, have collaborated in a joint study on CO2 injection at the Jatibarang Field in West Jawa, Indonesia since August 2022. The parties have successfully implementated CO2 Huff and Puff to demonstrate and verify the effect of CO2-EOR and CO2 underground storage for a depleted oil and gas field.
In Indonesia, several Japanese companies are conducting upstream development projects related to oil and natural gas. In addition, Indonesia has high potential of CO2 underground storage, as well as clean fuel production such as hydrogen and ammonia. JOGMEC will strengthen its cooperative relationship with PERTAMINA through this MOU to create business opportunities in contributing to the energy transition and energy security in Indonesia and Japan.
JOGMEC is committed to improving Japan's energy security and contributing to sustainable economic development and carbon neutrality in the Asian region, including Indonesia, based on the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC) concept and the Asian Energy Transition Initiative (AETI), both led by the government of Japan. We will contribute to the improvement of Japan's energy security and realization of sustainable economic development and carbon neutrality in Indonesia and other Asian countries.
