JOGMEC and ADNOC expand technical cooperation to decarbonize upstream value-chains

Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) has expanded its cooperation with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in an agreement signed in Abu Dhabi on 17 July. The expanded agreement was announced during the JAPAN-UAE Business Forum held in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan and H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. This agreement adds the evaluation and application of technologies relating to CCS/CCUS and methane management to existing areas of cooperation.

JNOC (Japan National Oil Corporation; the predecessor of JOGMEC) and ADNOC signed a comprehensive research agreement on the development of oil and gas reservoirs in January 2000. The agreement was inherited by JOGMEC when JOGMEC was established in February 2004, and was subsequently expanded to include the use of Japanese advanced technologiesin February 2013.

This agreement now expands to include CCS/CCUS, methane management and other low-carbon technologies.It is expected that the expansion of the MOU will strengthen the relationships between ADNOC and Japanese companies including JOGMEC.
